Gardening in North Dakota

I'm not sure why I choose the least garden-friendly place that we have lived in to suddenly decided to developing an interest in it. However, that's me al over and this will be my 3rd summer battling crab grass, dandelions, thistles, "dakrats," deers, oh yes, and the extremely short growing season. Two years ago my husband deployed for the summer and I spontaneously decided to sign up for a garden plot offered here on base and drag my two kids out to work on it. Needless to say, I wasn't very succesful. The next year I did a lot more research and planning, only to be foiled by my husband deploying again at the last minute. However, enlisting the help of a new neighbor and with my mom's assistance in July when she came out after the birth of "e-kid," we had a respectable harvest.

This year I was feeling even more prepared. Alas, my garden plot has not yet been plowed. It's been an extremely wet spring here (you may have heard about the flooding) and I'm beginning to doubt my ability to even begin to get the garden in before we go on vacation in 2 weeks. Send warm, dry vibes our way, please.

Starting out

I'm starting a new blog. I frequently find myself wanting to post about the new things I learn, be it gardening or photography. I'm always learning new things and I want to document my journey. But I also want my family blog to be, well, a family blog and not necessarily open to the internet community at large. So this is where you'll find a journal of my current obsessions. I'm still a newbie blogger, but I will attempt to work on that. Meanwhile, welcome and just read whatever piques your interest.
